There were only three companies at that time who were making these glasses namely Macbeth Evans, Federal Glass and Hocking Glass. They were trying to uplift people's state of mind in what petite ways they could do and they produced these depression glasses which were very cheap even cheaper than the price of bread. They produced these glasses in several colors with a ray of hope that everything will be fine soon.
American Sweetheart Depression glass was produced in some trendy colors like orange, green, pink and blue. Out of these pink became the most popular color that people generally used the pink Depression glass instead of the depression. Besides pink there were several other colors too that the glass was made in like blue, amber and opaque white. These are some patterns of these glasses which are very popular today like the Mayfair, American Sweetheart, Cameo and Royal Lace. American Sweetheart became the most popular of them all and is bought even today.
American Sweetheart Depression glass was produced with a hope to elevate the feelings of a nation which was suffering with its most complex times ever in its history. The names of these glasses were believed to refer to recovered times and a desire for the enchanting lifestyle of the 1920s. These glasses were admired and quite affordable when they were new. This glass was made between the combination of a nickel and a dime and that is the reason it was quite cheap. There were certain free gifts that were offered with the purchase of these glasses. On spending some dollar each buyer was given some gift.
