There have been a great number of things which has been named after the Great depression of the nineteen twenties. The Depression glass is still around in this age and is largely a collector's item these days. But there are still a few instances when these are used for functional purposes. This was created by the glass companies during that period keeping in mind the sad economic conditions that was prevalent at that time in the United States. But the success of this production of the Depression glass carried out till a long time considering other options that are cheaply available still. Red Depression glass is the most commonly seen variety in this class of glass. But this is necessarily not the case. It comes in other hues too. Most of them are in the different ranges of brown to yellow. Although there have been attempts to produce ones of different colors, the biggest takers for these are largely collectors of Depression glass. After the production of this variety of glass, the world saw a bloom in the glass industry. From glass etching to glass blowing there was a sudden out burst of interest in glass items. The red Depression glass is considered as a sign of the changing times. When the great economic depression hit the world the glass manufactures couldn't hope to maintain production of good quality glass and at the same time survive during those times. There are many different variants of Depression glass and many of them are the red Depression glass. This design is also a sign of the times along with the change in the design of the materials and the designers. This was also offset of the changing customer demands.
The collectors always have faced a challenge in trying to identify a true red Depression glass. With the advent of many other players in the market, not many actually create good masterpieces of red Depression glass. Some of the collectors' items are in demand. These scrapes of Depression glass have a high market value and there are still collectors who are on the lookout to procure various items of Depression glass if only they were fortunate enough to come across them. Since the 1960s there has been an increased awareness for the collectable items of the red Depression glass. Many have bid for extraordinarily high sums to procure these items from auctions. They are also available in white and green hues. |

The glass has been referred to as the Depression glass because it was this glass that was prepared during the time of the Great Depression period. All American Sweetheart Depression glass were manufactured in the United States during the late 1920s to the start of 1940s. I was attending a night party in one of my friend's place and there was a lot of beer and wine. I am a non drinker and was searching for water around the place. All the glasses were filled with red wine and on looking closely, I found that the glasses were empty and they were ruby red glassware looking red in color.
